Partnering For Successful Communication

Fall 2009-- The Workplace Learning Resource Center at the Kern Community College District is partnering with Kaiser Permanente to help facilitate better communication between Kaiser Permanente staff and its Spanish-speaking members. In order to improve member service and health outcomes, Kaiser Permanente is offering Basic Medical Spanish for the Kaiser Workplace to its staff to ensure they are able to communicate with their members effectively.  READ MORE

Initiatives Team Up for Green Technology Training
Fall 2008----California faces increasing electrical energy costs and a growing desire to address issues pertaining to global climate change. One key response has been to increase the demand for the implementation of renewable energy technology. This summer the Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy (ATTE) and Workplace Learning Resource Center (WpLRC) initiatives partnered on developing a contextualized basic skills curriculum as a supplement to an industry-based wind curriculum developed by the ATTE Initiative in partnership with Airstream Inc., a wind technology company. Next Skills Prepare Tomorrow`s Workforce

June 2008---The Next Skills Institute (NSI) is the training program for the 21st century workforce, which teaches the employee skills needed to be successful on the job. A review of eleven workforce studies, validated by business and industry, identified eight categories of skills that were most frequently reported by nearly 82% of employers surveyed as "most important." The Los Rios Community College District`s Workplace Learning Resource Center (WpLRC) joined in a collaborative partnership with SETA/Sacramento Works, their local workforce investment board (WIB), to address the need. El Camino College Offers Career Readiness Certificate
December 2007---Employers need reliable ways to measure foundation skills to ensure they are hiring the most qualified, trainable candidates. Job applicants want to know what skills they need for the jobs they are considering. The El Camino College Workplace Learning Resource Center has initiated a Job Development Incentive Fund supported project to implement the Career Readiness Certificate Program for the South Bay of Los Angeles. This certificate is designed to provide job seekers and employers with a portable credential that certifies an entry-level employee`s foundation skills in reading, applied mathematics and locating information to solve problems.
